Introduction to Beetroopers

At long last the bees are here!

Overview

Beetrooper is an insect-based archetype that focuses on link Summoning while also searching for extenders and handtraps (most notably Maxx "C"). Although the gameplan relies heavily on making Predaplant Verte Anaconda to bring out Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer, the deck's strength lies in its resilience and consistency, through its ability to utilize the non-once-per-turn effects of old insect monsters in tandem with fast-paced Beetrooper and Battlewasp extenders.

Different versions?

As it currently stands, Beetrooper makes effective use of the DPE package in almost all of its competitive builds. For clarity and simplicity’s sake, three versions will be distinguished, referred to respectively as:

  • The Adventure build (running Adventure + DPE)
  • The BeePE build (running DPE)
  • The Pure build (running neither)
The Adventure build

Arguably the most competitive build, which utilizes the Adventure package on DPE package. This restricts the possible range of plays, and simplifies many of the combo lines, but provides the deck with insulation, and a much needed omni-negate.

The BeePE build

Many Beetrooper decklists choose not to run the Adventure package, and rely solely on the DPE package, which they successfully supplement by being able to make use of Normal Summon effects like Battlewasp - Sting the Poison’s, which is a 1 card Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer, a 1 card Seraphim Papillion, and more generally a great combo starter.

The Pure build

There also exists a pure, more combo-oriented version of the deck, which relies on Summoning Number 3: Cicada King and Scary Moth, but has seen far less competitive success, and will not be analyzed in depth within this guide (an example decklist will still be provided).

Main Deck

The core bugs

Resonance Insect

One of the aforementioned “old insect monsters”, which does not have a once-per-turn clause. When sent from the field to the grave (which can be done by simply linking it off into Salamangreat Almiraj), it can search for any Lever 5 or higher insect monster. The primary targets are Beetrooper Sting Lancer, Doom Dozer, or even Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju. When banished, it can send an insect monster from the deck to the grave, Gokipole being the main target.

Retaliating "C"

The second “old insect monster” without a once-per-turn clause. When sent from the field to grave (note that unlike Resonance Insect or Gokipole it cannot be linked off into a link-1), it can search for Resonance Insect, Gokipole, and of course, Maxx "C". This card also doubles as handtrap, and Summons itself when your opponent uses a spell that Special Summons a monster (for instance Rite of Aramesir, Branded Fusion, Emergency Teleport, Basal Rose Shoot, and any fusion or ritual spell). If Summoned this way, it becomes a Macro Cosmos on legs.

While I do dislike that this archetype because just uses generic boss monsters I have nothing but respect for the guide itself. Props to you man.

Great guide! It would be cool if this deck could utilize Parasite Paranoid and Metamorphosed Insect Queen. Bugs need more love.

I appreciate the kind words! Parasite Paranoid is a very intersting and versatile tech depending on the meta, but as of right now it does not have any amazing payoff to summon (Metamorphosed Insect Queen is simply not worth it, IMO). With new insect support being teased, I'm really hoping this deck can reach new heights!

This deck/archetype is so much fun to play. The big turning point you come across when playing it , is when you realize half the deck is hand traps, even the in-archetype cards like sting lancer, scale bomber and retaliating C. It makes for an interesting and active duel whether it’s your turn or your opponents. Just wish it had better boss monsters than DPE, Gryphon and papillon. The future addition of Krawler Suma will make this a deck capable of incredible combo opportunities that will be great to explore.

I have been trying to learn the deck but was unable to find a comprehensive guide that focused on the Master Duel format. Thanks for condensing this amount of information in such a straightforward manner.

Completely underrated deck, reached Diamond 1 with it thanks to this guide. Literally had an easier time climbing with this than the usual meta decks since no one knows how it runs and it gets to lethal lines deceptively easily.

FINALLY, i get to play some bees, always mess up the combo before the guide since i don't really know what the typical endboard is

I've done boards with Apollousa + DPE + Griffin Ryder and with a searched maxx C in hand. The deck has easy lines to accesscode lethal (doom doozer + accesscode) and the pure variant can consistently end on Atlas + Cicada king + Bomber in GY. The boards are not insane but if you're literally only doing DPE pass, you're gonna want to practice the combo lines more since there are some very respectable boards the deck can put out. The deck itself does feel a bit too fair often times since the insect finishers are not the best but it can at least consistently put up 2-3 interactions with follow up next turn.
