Notes & Combos
I've been eagerly awaiting the Horus engine for months now. I want to quickly point out that for a while I have not been enjoying playing the common meta decks like Snake-Eyes at all and really wanted something less linear. And with the edjucated guesses finally mentioning it's release in May, I went to search what things I could do with the engine. Due to the Youtube algoritm recommending a video about the current state of Dragon Link in the TCG post Savage Dragon ban, and seeing a Master Duel video talking about the position of Bystials in the metagame about two months ago, I eventually found the Horus Resonator Bystial deck. Playing this deck has genuinely been one of the most fun experiences I have had in Master Duel.
I started out with a 45 card list, which ended up being very inconsistent due to running too many bricks and also seeing my Maxx C answers less often. After a while, I found that this is one of those decks that really has to play as close to 40 cards as possible, else it's winrate becomes noticibly worse. For a while I tried running D.D. Crow as a handtrap that is a DARK discard for 2 Chaos Space, but in the end, drawing double Chaos Space would still brick me often and D.D. Crow was not anywhere near as powerful of a handtrap in this metagame as Veiler, which is still a LIGHT keeping most of the synergy with the deck that Crow had except for the ability to search Lubellion. After removing cards such as Branded Beast, Chaos Emperor, Meteor Dragon and even Crossout, cards that still very much have a place in the deck but are simply a bit worse than the rest, I managed to finally get the deck down to 40 cards in order to maximize it's consistency.
I want to give a shoutout to user akosvera for making it to Master 1 a day before me and writing a very complete set of notes you should definitely check out if you are interested in this deck. I was going to do a similar breakdown, but it would have not even come close to theirs. Therefore I will just explain some choices in my list that differ from akosvera's, which include:
- 1 Seyfert. While it's search effect is sometimes useful, it's mainly here to recycle Levianeer from grave making it a good Zombie Vampire mill or Imsety discard. Also can make LIGHT+DARK Chaos Angel with a Bystial which came up now and then.
- 2 Vision Resonator. This is just something I saw in most TCG lists which all seemed to opt for 3 Tuners, either 3 Vision or 2 Vision + 1 Ringowurm. Not owning any Vision before building the deck, and it being another UR I would have to craft, I decided to choose the latter.
- 3 Effect Veiler. It's probably the 2nd best (Non-C-Package) handtrap in the game after Impermanence, however has far more synergy with this deck than Imperm does by being a free LIGHT in grave. Also means that you can dodge an attempted Called By by using a Bystial to banish it. This interaction caused several insta-scoops on it's own. I cannot imagine myself not running this card.
- Barricadeborg Blocker can protect and recycle your important Continuous Spells that the deck is focused around. However, it did not come up very often as they were far more often banished than sent to the grave.
- Underworld Goddess can out problematic cards like Noir and Punisher. Mainly here because I expected to face more Purrely with Small Noir released recently.
